Paul Butler Architects Limited are a family owned and run Architects Practice established in York in 2004 offering a design service tailor made for each individual client, because we understand that each of our clients are unique.

Although needing to be based on sound commercial sense, on budget, and on time, each project also needs to meet exactly the aspirations of each and every new (or existing) client we serve. Over the years we have gained a reputation for our high quality designs, constructions and service, and we strive to ensure that this reputation is delivered to all of our clients, on every project.

Paul Butler Architects Limited is headed up by Paul Butler BArch PDAP RIBA, who's experience and specialist knowledge of housing design (both private and social) has led to various awards for past clients including the Best Development Gold Medal for private housing developments issued by the WhatHouse? magazines. Paul is a chartered architect elected to the RIBA in January 2000, after qualifying from the Hull School of Architecture. His career began in York at Briggs, Potts & Parry Architects where he worked on numerous projects covering the fields of residential, commercial, medical, education and ecclesiastical architecture. In 1998, Paul joined Avebury Projects Ltd, based in Milton Keynes, as senior architect working predominately on social housing developments in London, Milton Keynes and Birmingham. In 2002, Paul joined Woods Hardwick Ltd, based in Bedford, as Associate Director in the residential consultancy department, covering multi-million pound, award-winning, residential developments across the Southeast in both the private and public housing sectors. His client base included many leading house builders such as Persimmon Homes, Bellway Homes and Taylor Woodrow, and Paul was responsible
for setting up partnering agreements with Midsummer Housing Association and Aragon Housing Association, delivering over 1000 new homes schemes across the Midlands and south east including one of the first Government Challenge Funded social housing projects as part of the Atlas Project Partnership.

Paul established Butler Design in December 2004 with the intention of establishing an Architects Practice capable of delivering an approachable, professional service, encompassing his experience in the residential sector from bespoke 'one-off' designs to multi-million pound residential developments, whilst retaining the family owned and friendly approach synonymous with small practice. Following continued year on year success, Paul Butler Architects Limited was launched on 01st September 2008 taking responsibility for all Architectural services offered by Butler Design, with a view to continuously improving our services for the benefit of our clients, without forgetting our grass roots philosophies. Although winning awards is a reflection of our achievements, it is of even more importance to us that we deliver exactly the right design solution to suit our clients needs, on time and to budget.

We offer a full design service including managing planning, listed building consent, conservation area and building regulations applications, with a friendly, professional and personal approach synonymous with our family owned business philosophy.

For any project whether residential or commercial, from extensions through to new build houses or barn conversions to sports centres or offices, please feel free to contact us and we'll be more than happy to discuss your aspirations.

Anna Porter
Anna recently joined Paul Butler Architects after completing her undergraduate studies at University of Sheffield, with a final project remodelling a disused pottery factory into a new learning centre exploring re-use within the construction industry. With a keen interest in environmental architecture and green infrastructure, she is currently getting stuck into a range of unique residential projects in York. Outside of the office you will find Anna cooking, painting or hunting out the best coffee and cake in York.

Having finished his undergraduate degree at Sheffield Hallam University, Reece joined the team at Paul Butler Architects in 2018. Since then he's developed his skills principally within the residential sector, designing bespoke new builds and extensions for our clients. Reece has nurtured a growing interest in the adaptation of listed/historic buildings, having now worked on a number of Grade II listed conversions which have gained approval at planning and are being implemented on site.
In his free time Reece enjoys painting, life drawing,
rock climbing and testing his patience in the world of DIY.
